I always wondered if the rumors of the iPad3 for September is actually a smaller tablet designed to compete against the Barnes & Noble Nook Color and (possibly) an upcoming Amazon Kindle Android tablet. It would feature iOS 5, Retina Display (for easier reading), the iBookstore, and could run iPhone or iPod Touch apps. Market it as a separate product, and maybe even use the iBook name again.
Then again - after seeing a TV commercial for a Samsung TV that has a bunch of apps, maybe the Apple HDTV set isn't a bad rumor either.
Well, If I was in product development at Apple*, I might look around and see what the biggest iPad competitors were producing and come to the conclusion that if I produced a 7" iBook running iBooks and a few other iOS Apps and priced it to compete reasonably well with the Kindle, then launched it shortly before Christmas then I might hook quite a lot more customers into the Apple ecosystem.
At the same time I'd hopefully attract the I-have-a-laptop-so-I-don't-want-a-tablet-but-an-eReader-would-be-nice segment of the market which, judging by the number of MR posters saying that here, is quite large.
*But I'm not. However I'll have a tenner on at Ladbrokes that that's what's coming in September.:)

While I would never buy an "iTV" it does sound somewhat interesting sorta like how the Apple TV sounded interesting at first.
I could see an iTV that essentially is a big giant wireless monitor for Macs/iDevices. It could have cameras on it so that you could use Facetime or whatever it's called with others. Maybe cheaper TV shows and stuff off the iTunes store.
While we may all doubt it at first like so many did when the iPad first came out, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this becomes a monster hit.

really? can you show me your At&t speedtest?
I'm not on AT&T (been on Rogers and Wind in Canada). On Rogers/Fido or Bell/Telus/Virgin its not uncommon to consistently hit 5-6mbps on an iPhone or other phone (with hspa up to 7.2mbps). They've had hspa+ in many areas for over a year as well.
So hearing 4mbps out of hspa+ which is being marketed as 4G is just sad.

Today's shot was taken from a boat underneath a bridge. I totally got lucky on this one. :rolleyes:

I was floating in water was somewhere between 3 and 4 feet deep when this stingray swam underneath me. Part of the luck was that we backed up the camera's every night. When this camera went AOL two days later, we still had our memories from this day. :)

So the figure head who has had little to nothing to do with Al-Queada (a leaderless brand name of extremists at this point) since 9/11 is dead. Woo hoo. Having worked very closely with the head engineers of AT&T, I do feel sorry for them. As someone stated earlier, that are spending billions to upgrade the network, but all that money will only meet current demand in some areas. The iPhone is such an incredible success that AT&T never had a chance. The same would be said about Verizon had they got the exclusive contract. If you want to lay the blame at anyones feet, it should be Apple. They should have made a CDMA version and split the load between the networks.
That's actually a very intelegent point. I hate AT&T for their price gouging and service but I would bet we would've said the same about Verizon if they got the exclusivity too three years ago.
The blame really is with Apple on this whole mess. Open up the rights to other carriers and give the customers the option between the big 3. At&t was an alienating decision.

Thanks for the chart...I always like to see stuff like this. But your 3Q and 4Q numbers for 2003 and 2004 looked a bit fishy, so I looked into it and made the corrections below for 2004. Don't know if there are any other errors.

I don't really know what the BFD is with the hype around these music locker services. These services are nothing new (not that Apples does anything new), they have been around in smaller scale the past few years. Problem is, it took too long to upload music, the streaming quality was average at best, and they were too expensive.
I'd like to see how Apple would improve on these services. They will integrate into the iPod UI. That is great. Possibly better upload times (or no uploading at all). But the benefits end there. Cellular connection are slowing at a quicker rate than cellphones are becoming faster. And now we data caps?
Is anyone on here going to delete all the music on their iPhone to be able to pay $20 per year to regain a subpar stream of there very own music? And at a detriment to their limited data amount? Am I missing something??
THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE ABOUT STREAMING. It is going to be about smart syncing media across Macs & iOS devices. You wont delete all your music on your phone or Mac BUT you wont have to have all of it stored locally to have access to all of it. This is going to be how Apple transitions Macs to Flash storage but still allows one to have gigantic iTunes and iPhoto and iMovie libraries. Same with phones and iPads.

Seriously doubt it's gonna happen. As said, low margins and really though competition.
They'd fare a lot better by licensing AirPlay to current manufacturers and let customers stream to TVs without an Apple TV.

The Gobi chip in the verizon iphone 4 supports it. If they use that for a universal iphone 5, the question is whether apple/at&t enables it.

Yet that doesn't change the fact that the BSOD still exists in XP.
The code for kernel panics exists in MacOS too, from my experience sometimes the OS even croaks before it can even draw the cool graphical error screen out. At least Windows XP has a fully functional BSOD :rolleyes:

I don't understand one thing. Why can't Apple confirm this themselves? That way people will at least know what they can do. Either you wait or you move onto to another device.
