Wow, amazing how emotional people always get whenever I make a statement that could sound slightly anti-iPod... I know you love your iPod and all (I am very fond of mine myself), but over the last few years Apple has been focusing a dispropotional amount of energy into their cute little gadget which has massively boosted their profits. For those of us that don't salivate over all things iPod, I think this is too bad.

    That is all.

I don't even *own* an iPod, but I still think you're off base and aren't seeing the big picture. Thank goodness the people that run Apple don't think like you. Apple is focusing on these gadgets (iPod, Airport/AirTunes, iTV, iPhone) that aren't even Mac-centric, because they are *immensely* adding to Apple's reputation for innovation, style, and ease-of-use. These are attributes that translate directly to marketing the Mac. The iPod halo effect has been slow in coming but it *is* real. And it's soon to be followed by the iTV and iPhone halo effect. I think Apple will continue to make gains in the home market with their MacBooks. And maybe the iTV will help the Mac Mini take off as a media center computer. iMacs and Mac/Book Pros are always going to be a tougher sell because of their higher cost. But it's Apple's success in the broader consumer market that is allowing it to also stay in the niche high-end computer market...

3 months... Or more, we don't know, that's the problem. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2, an outstanding phone(reviews say), will be in the market. Apple, wake up.

Too bad the phone will be on the market for 6 months without a single software update then release a new phone telling customers if they want bugs fixed they'll have to buy a new phone rather than expecting a free software update. The fact that people take seriously Samsung's mobile phones really shows what a legion of drones there are out there - if Samsung aren't abandoning their Android users at the earliest instance they're screwing up WP7 updates.

    "...to ensure our continued innovation..."

Ripping-off other companies' UI's is "innovation" now?

Samsung is such a pathetic company. They make nice TVs but still pathetic.

Oh please...like Apple are the shining example of integrity

If this was on an iPod Touch isn't there a mb cutoff where you have to use your computer, or is that just for 3G and just a suggestion when on wifi?

Surprising how heated the debate on this can get - I think it's a great story.

Boy makes mistake (as does mother, in not supervising him closely enough). The mother asks for help from Apple, and Apple complies even though they don't have to. The boy, and his mother are very unlikely to make the same mistake again - and the same holds for any parent reading this story! :p

Sounds like a win - win - win - win scenario to me!

I remember owning one of those when it first came out. Survived a trip to Philmont quite well!

How can it be TFT and IPS?!! That makes no sense quite honestly... Pish Posh...

I think you're confusing TFT with TN.
    They're not the same thing.

I feel bad for all of you GSM iPhone users. I really do.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying a flawless iPhone experience on my CDMA iPhone 4. ;)

I upgraded to 4.2.7 four hours ago and my battery has gone down from 52% to 48% (with moderate usage). So.. yeah. Pretty much unchanged at this point. :D

    Just a thought

But apple have hired the carbon fibre specialist? Why not make it lighter and thinner by using him to work his magic over the iPhone form factor. I'd go for a CF iPhone to be sure.

I just found that the person that was beat up was transgender and this was a hate crime. How come this is not all over the news? I guess hate crimes are okay now by black people but if a white person did this it would be the end of the world.

MSNBC was reporting this late last night. I think that part of the story just wasn't known right away and hopefully it will be part of the story now. If it was black on white or vice versa, it would have been obvious on the video, too, and you're right, the Easter riots would be in full effect by now.

    Better mathematical notation input
The exact opposite is why I shelled out the £35 for iWork, it can have the best mathematical notation support (far superiour to Word* and better than OpenOffice)

If you download LaTeXiT (http://ktd.club.fr/programmation/latexit_en.php) and have LaTeX installed on your system (see this post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=2247154#post2247154) for how to install LaTeX) you can set up a shortcut in the preferences of LaTeXiT (say Command - /) so that you can automatically create an equation from LaTeX written in Pages (using the Services menu), because Pages is a Cocoa App.

*If you shell out $100 for MathType, Word is probably better than with just Equation Editor, I have never used it though.

EDIT 2:Reading this thread is great, I don't feel like the only person in the world to like Pages, I'm looking forward for an excuse to give Keynote a go as well.

They're not suing them to make money, or protect their patents.
It's the trademark they are protecting. They'll probably lose in court, but win outside of it.

Apple sued on 7 utility and 3 design patents, plus the trademarks.

I have no idea what happened except Plutonius got lynched and isn't a WW. Are Chrmjenkins and Appleguy 321/123 okay? Are they Specials? I can't tell if I'm on the Detention Level of a Star Destroyer or on the bridge of the Enterprise D.:confused:

The stories are best read when hi/drunk/tripping. appleguy and chrmjenkins' prominaint stance in the narritivies does not reflect their in game roles. Actually, I wrote up the first narrative then assigned the roles via random.org.

I can't wait for Lion. Like a lot of people, I was first brought into the Apple world by iPhone/iOS, so bringing successful elements of iOS over to the Mac sounds like a great idea to me.

iCal doesn't even look that bad, IMO (not the most "professional" look, maybe). I'm really curious to see whether Apple will change it given the bad feedback it seems to be receiving (here, at least).

I wonder if this new pricing scheme is being enabled by the record labels with lower wholesale pricing to Amazon (to try, yet again, to take power out of Apple's hands), or if Amazon is simply doing this at a loss?

Why would Amazon want to take a loss - to support non-Apple mp3 players?

For Apple, they are not making much, if any money - they always planned it as a break-even business - the real value was the content eco-system tied to their products (= value for customers).

You need my approval to sell the sandwhich shop which I (in God-form) have given you. Consider it denied.

    Overruled.
